On our way to Siquijor for the 22nd annual regional conference of the Regional Association for Development Information Officers 7 (RADIO 7), we had an almost four-hour layover at Dumaguete City. So instead of getting bored by staying at the pier waiting for the boat that will take us to Siquijor, my party of bloggers from the Cebu Blogging Community headed down to Rizal Boulevard, Dumaguete City's show window.
Quick Facts About Rizal Boulevard
A marker in the boulevard details some quick facts about the Rizal Boulevard. The marker indicates that the Rizal Boulevard was built in 1916. The boulevard spans 780 meters long and is so named because it was believed that national hero Dr. Jose Rizal spent some hours on the beach beside the boulevard probably on his way to exile in Dapitan City.
I Love Dumaguete Landmark
The "I Love Dumaguete" landmark is probably the most photographed spot at Dumaguete City's Rizal Boulevard. Having one's photograph taken here is a must for every Dumaguete City visitor.

What's At Rizal Boulevard?
Rizal Boulevard is among Dumaguete City's most popular landmarks and historical sites. When coming in at the city's seaport, one can already get a glimpse of the boulevard with the white lampposts and trees lining the boulevard. It is actually walking distance from the gates of the seaport.
As one approaches the boulevard coming from the seaport, a marker greets the visitor where the sidewalk becomes wider. Near the spot of the marker is also the I Love Dumaguete marker where guests are usually obliged to take their photos.
In some spaces, there are food vendors that sell tempura or balut. Locals usually head down here for a quick bite with their families for an inexpensive family bonding and a night stroll. While we whiled our time away at the boulevard, we bought some tempura and squid balls to munch on.
On the other side of the boulevard are restaurants, banks, hotels, and other businesses. Two of my favorite places to eat in Dumaguete City are located here, Sans Rival Bistro and Chin Loong Restaurant.
